Promoting Inclusivity and Diversity in Urology

Urology has predominantly been a male-dominated specialty, due to the belief that urological conditions are more common in men. In reality, urology is a diverse field that encompasses genitourinary problems affecting men, women, and children. It is a specialty that affects lives across all genders and ages, yet the urological health of women and children is frequently overlooked or misunderstood.

I have been fortunate to meet trailblazing women surgeons early in my training who inspired me to persevere. The aim is to continue working with national and regional associations in order to support and encourage more women of caliber to enter this field. Diversity is differences in personal, physical, and social characteristics. Inclusivity refers to strategies implemented by organisations to integrate everyone.

This video was recorded in 2024 in collaboration with Urological Association of Asia's (UAA) 21st Congress on the value and challenges of being an inclusive and diverse fraternity of urologists.
