Laparoscopic surgery refers to performing operations using multiple 3-12 mm incisions, small camera for visualization, and long instruments. When done correctly, the laparoscopic approach should result in less postoperative pain, faster recovery, and shorter hospital stay, while maintaining safe outcomes equivalent to standard operations. The benefits of laparoscopic surgery are most obvious in older children and adults who often require large surgical incisions.
